RIAT 2015: three fantastic days celebrating aviation in the truest sense!

Bronco Demo Team gratefully accepted an invitation to the Royal International Air Tatto (RIAT) at Fairford, with not only the Bronco but with in addition two company Short Skyvan aircraft. The arrival on July 16th appropriately marked the first flight of the OV10 Bronco 50 years earlier with an arrival at approximately the same time the wheels of a Bronco first ever left the earth.

The RIAT ground crew had smartly arranged for all three aircraft to be parked together in a prominent position between a Dutch Air Force KDC10 and RAF Voyager. The Bronco was taking the “pride of place” center position in a great ground display. This was very well received by the many visitors and Bronco friends alike, keeping our merchandising stand very busy from opening till closing every day. We really did appreciate your visit, the many supportive comments and questions.

In front of the Bronco an ‘In Memoriam” plaque for USNR Capt. Ed Gillespie was displayed. First to fly the Bronco, Mr. Gillespie had sadly passed away only one week before. Many people respectfully took a minute in remembrance.

We were also honoured by the visit of a true Vietnam veteran: Lt. Col. USAF (Ret) Jack Goodman Jr. Jack flew OV-10As out of Ubon, Thailand in spring 1971.
The last display season for the mighty AVRO Vulcan at RIAT was celebrated with a fitting formation flown with the Reds and by an awesome solo display, with the Saturday display widely recognized as the most exciting ever. Our Cheerleaders certainly added a lot of color and flavor with their different outfits and, as the pictures show, were well received by the other static display items.

RIAT always closes with freshly baked omelettes and a great farewell party for all crew and volunteers on the Sunday evening, an event not to miss!

Many thanks to the many volunteers who make this incredible show happen every year yet again and especially to Norm Webster and Tom Gibbons for all your continued support.
