In keeping with the tradition, the opening airshow of the season is the Abingdon Air & Country show. This year the event took place on May 1st and for many people it was their first airshow outing after a long lazy winter. Despite the major changes in safety regulations following the Shoreham accident, Neil Porter and his volunteer team put together a great line-up of aircraft in combination with a large fancy fair. We were happy to participate with the Bronco statically and with the Skyvan dropping the Jump4Heroes parachute team, opening the show spot on time.
This year a decision was made to have a non-jet show and consequently a nice mix of vintage aircraft and helicopters was put in the air, some items rarely seen at airshows. The highlights were the Bristol Blenheim, the venerable Catalina and the participation of the BBMF Spitfire and Hurricane. A nice demo was flown by an Auster. A welcome sight were several vintage helicopters, the Navy Wasp and the Army Scout and Sioux.

The weather was much better than last year and the showground filled up quickly with an attentive crowd in support of the Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

We had a great time again and wish to thank everyone for the great organization. Hopefully we’ll see you all again next year!
